Sometimes it happens that Windows XP restarts automatically without loading the applications. This problem is due to damaged files in the system. The files may have been damaged by a failed shutdown of Windows, by viruses or after an electrical failure. To solve this problem try this solution:
1. Insert the installation CD of windows XP in the reader 2. Boot from CD into the Windows setup disk 3. When requested, press R to access the emergency repair console. 4. Specify the installation you wish to access, then the administrator password. 4b. Type the command chkdsk c: /r 5. Once the restore is complete, remove the cd-rom then 6. type exit then reboot your NdT: Please note that another cause produces a similar result, you may be warned that there is no swap file on disk or the cache file could not be created. If this is the case, and you may not reinstall the disk that originally contained the swap file, you must proceed like this: 1. Do NOT click on the OK under the error message 2. Press CTRL+Shift+Esc (taskmanager loads), and from the File menu choose Run... 3a. Type diskmgmt.msc, find a suitable partition, and assign it the letter window's expecting to find, -or- 3b. type explorer.exe, right click on My computer then choose Properties. NdT: Should you not be able to boot up to this point, start windows in the Command mode. At the prompt follow the directions at points 3a or 3b above typing the commands in the console.
